The 2014 Greater Cleveland USBC MASTERS RESULTS

The winner of the 2014 Greater Cleveland USBC Bowling Association Masters Invitational was Jim Pencak. The 26th annual Masters was held at Buckeye Lanes on May 3 and 4. Sixty-four bowlers entered the tournament. The top 8 bowlers after 12 games on May 3 were: the defending champion, Mike King, plus Aaron Morgan, Jim Pencak, Ken Konczos, Will Haverland, Steve Waters, Brad Smeal, and DJ Assaff. On Sunday, May 4, these bowlers competed in 8 games of match play. Assaff, King, Waters, Konczos, and Pencak advanced to the stepladder finals.

King defeated Assaff and Waters to advance to the semi-final. The semi-final match had King besting Konczos 48-44 in a 9th and 10th frame roll-off after they tied. Pencak got off to a quick start in the finals with spares in the 1st and 2nd followed by a double. King struggled with opens in the 2nd and 4th frames. Pencak opened in the 5th and 7th while King struck in the 6th, 7th and 8th. Pencak came back with strikes in the 8th and 9th. King opened in the 9th and 10th to finish with 166, while Pencak spared and stuck in the 19th to finish with 192.

Jim Pencak will be honored as the Masters champion at the GCBA’s banquet August 2 and will represent the GCBA at 2015 USBC Masters in Green Bay, Wisconsin.



The Greater Cleveland USBC Bowling Association would like to announce the 2014 Hall of Fame inductees: Gary Burz, Dan Ruminski, and Richard Vitonis. Each is being inducted for Superior Performance.
